Since 1996, Rukus Avenue has been at the forefront of a burgeoning music scene, mostly comprised of South Asian artists in N. America. From very humble beginnings, the label has expanded it’s signature sound and cultural influence, as documented in both film & academic circles.

Welcome to Rukus Avenue, is a glimpse into the future of the label’s next generation of artists.

On this evening, the entire Rukus Avenue roster – including: Rasika Mathur, CJ, Gingger Shankar, Sammy Chand, Hoodini & Sandeep, will perform together for the first time in an intimate theater setting.

Hosted by Janina Gavankar (The L Word, NCIS) the audience will be treated to a diverse sonic array – including a re-imagined Bollywood sound, soulful R&B selections, a conscious Hip-Hop manifesto, musical comedy pieces and prominent elements from the rich musical legacy of the Sub-Continent.

Fusion dance pieces choreographed by Janet Roston and Yogen Bhagat (Bollywood Step), live musicians – including a string quartet led by Andrea Hammond and an artistic series of visualizations will round out the evening’s creative offering

The event will be recorded live for an upcoming documentary. A limited number of tickets went on sale to the public July 15th. Tickets are priced $25-50 and will be available online from www.bgttix.com.

Attendees will also receive priority entry to a post-performance party to be held at the Foundation Room – a private membership club located inside the House of Blues (Sunset Strip). DJ’s confirmed for the evening include Tasneem, DJ Ben G & headliner Garth Trinidad of KCRW.

Welcome to Rukus Avenue is presented in association with the City of Los Angeles, Department of Cultural Affairs.

The Barnsdall Gallery Theatre is a facility of the City of Los Angeles, Department of Cultural Affairs.
